What is the cost of the full time course?

  • For full time fee-funded trainees, the course fees for 2027/28 are £10,050 for the PGCE route and £9,550 for the QTS only option
  • For trainees on the salaried route, the QTS course fees are paid by the employing school.  The optional PGCE is an additional cost and the salaried trainee is responsible for meeting the cost.
  • For trainees on the apprenticeship route the fees are covered by the apprenticeship levy. The PGCE is an additional cost and the apprentice is responsible for meeting the cost.

How can I pay my fees?

  • Self finance: you can fund the tuition fees through private finance. 
  • Tuition fee loan: you can apply for funding via the Lifelong Learning Entitlement for a loan to cover your course fees for more information please click here
  • Salaried and Apprenticeship PGCE fees: Trainees on the salaried and apprenticeship routes are not eligible for any student loans. Therefore, should they opt to take the PGCE uplift this will need to be self-funded. For details of the exact prices please contact your local hub.

Can I get a DfE teacher training bursary or scholarship?

'High demand' secondary subjects attract a bursary or scholarship which trainees can apply for. Availability is dependent on the highest relevant academic award and the ITT subject. To receive a bursary or scholarship, trainees will need to be entitled to support under the Student Finance England criteria as either a home or EU student in order to meet the eligibility criteria for the bursary. Applicants with a degree from outside the UK will need to check their eligibility for a bursary. Get into Teaching will also provide guidance on equivalent qualifications.. How much will I get paid on the salaried route?

Salaried places are only available in a limited number of schools and subject areas. Please check your local hub page to find out about availability in your area.

The amount you will be paid on the salaried route will depend on the location of your employing school. The figures below are correct for 2026/27 but are subject to change on an annual basis.
