GLF Teacher Training

GLF Schools' Teacher Training is an alliance of highly successful schools in Surrey, Croydon, Oxfordshire, West Sussex, Wokingham and Hampshire. We have a very strong history of providing exceptional Initial Teacher Training since 2013, with high employment rates within our partnership schools.

You will be trained by an experienced ITT primary and secondary leader, and a range of practising school leaders will visit each core training session to ensure you have the best support and a variety of different school insights.
We get to know each trainee and offer excellent pastoral support throughout your journey to becoming a teacher. Our diverse cohort of present and past trainees are always on hand for peer support and advice.
School Experience
We believe that having some school experience is extremely beneficial if you are considering training to be a teacher: it allows you to see the nature of the role and make sure that it is right for you before you apply or undertake your training.
- To support potential applicants to gain this invaluable experience, GLF Teacher Training offer one-day School Experience visits to a selection of schools within our partnership.
- School experience days are only open to candidates who are eligible to start teacher training programmes in September 2026.

All of our placement schools have significant experience in delivering Initial Teacher Training and are able to provide you with a consistently high quality settings throughout your training programme.
There are often opportunities for successful trainees to go on and work within their host school, or group of schools, following a successful training year, subject to schools' recruitment and selection processes.
How can we support you?
At GLF Teacher Training the support we offer starts from the day you first make an enquiry. Our team will guide you through the application process, arrange school experience for you in a school local to your home and provide support with any finance queries you may have. We strongly recommend coming along to one of our face-to-face information events to meet us in person and to ask any questions you might have. Bursary Information for Teacher Training Routes for 26/27
You could be entitled to a bursary of up to £29,000 or a scholarship of up to £31,000. Bursary amounts will vary depending on your teacher training subject and degree classification.
For 2026 to 2027 the DFE are offering the following postgraduate bursaries:
- £29,000 in chemistry, computing, mathematics and physics
- £20,000 in design and technology and languages
- £5,000 in geography and biology
Bursaries are tax-free payments paid over 10 increments throughout your teacher training year. You will be supported by IFT and GLF Teacher Training with next steps if you are eligible.
To be eligible for a bursary, applicants should have a 1st, 2:1, 2:2, Master’s degree or PhD.
For 2026 to 2027 the following postgraduate scholarships are on offer for candidates with a high class of degree:
- £31,000 in chemistry, computing and physics
- £22,000 in French and Spanish
You cannot receive both a bursary and a scholarship. Scholarships are tax-free payments awarded by organisations paid over a minimum of 10 months. If you are eligible, you can apply for a scholarship directly to the scholarship provider.
POSTGRADUATE ROUTES
(for those who already hold a degree)
If you already have a degree, there are a few routes into teaching that you can take:
Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeships
This is an employment-based route for high quality graduates where you can earn as you train. The amount of teaching you will be expected to undertake at each stage of the programme will depend on your prior experience.
Please note that applicants for the Primary Teaching Apprenticeship and Secondary Apprenticeships in non-shortage subjects should ideally have a minimum of one year classroom-based experience supported by references. Subjects considered to be shortage at Secondary level are: Art, Biology, Chemistry, Computing, Design and Technology, English, Geography. Modern Foreign Languages, Maths, Music, Physics and RE.
Schools can draw upon their apprenticeship levy so they can cover the cost of the tuition fees.
New PILOT Part time Training Pathway
This course provides school-led training which offers you a gradual introduction to teaching. It runs across five school terms, starting in September of year one with completion in April of year 2.
The part time programme available in the following subject areas:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Design Technology
- Geography
- Modern Foreign Languages (French/Spanish)
- Primary (by request, subject to consideration by our ITT Lead Provider, IFT)
Part-time Programme Snapshot:
- Duration: 5 terms
- Schedule: 3 days per week (Wednesday to Friday)
- Start: September 2026
- Completion: Easter 2028 (Year 2)
Assessment Only Pathway
The Assessment Only route is a pathway into teaching that have a minimum of 2 years teaching experience across two different settings and are fulfilling the role of a qualified teacher. This route is an assessment only process where candidates are already demonstrating the expectations of the teacher standards. This route is generally only available for candidates that are already employed within their current school; enquiries for this route is school led.
UNDERGRADUATE ROUTES (for those who do not currently have a degree)
GLF Teacher training also support teacher degree apprenticeships for undergraduates wanting to get into teaching. We are affiliated with Brighton University for the following Teacher Degree Apprenticeships:
- The Secondary Maths Teacher Degree Apprenticeship comes with a DFE grant for schools to support the salary and the ability to claim all training fees from the Apprenticeship Levy to help the trainees on their degree/QTS training route.
- The Primary Teacher Degree Apprenticeship does not contain a DFE grant to support the salary. Still, it does allow the candidates to use the Apprenticeship Levy to fund their degree/QTS training route.

Secondary Maths Teacher Degree Apprenticeship Details
- Salary - Schools will pay the salary 3 days a week for 4 years and DFE will pay the other 2 days.
- Timetable - 60% 3 days a week on-the-job training in schools and 40% (2 days) off-the-job training, which will mainly be delivered online to best fit around the candidate's schedule. 4-year course leading to degree and QTS.
- Route/support—This is offered in the 11-16 route only, and candidates will have a school-based mentor and university-based tutor to support them.
- Entry requirements - A Levels- CCC or BTEC- MMM, plus GCSEs C/4 in English Language, Maths, and Science. (Will accept International Baccalaureate, T Level – Merit in Education and Early Years of Education and Childcare. Need IELTS 6.5 overall.
- Employer role - Provide TDA contract of employment, pay salary, provide a mentor, attend apprenticeship progress reviews
- Funding for Schools - Schools that employ maths TDA trainees as part of the pilot will receive financial support with the trainee’s salary costs. DFE pay 2 days a week. This will cover the proportion of the time trainees will spend studying towards their qualification. The funding from the DFE is only for the 150 nationally available places.
- Funding for training costs - Cost for the training programme can be claimed from GLF’s levy pot- after a suitable application and vetting process. Trainees can’t access a student loan but can apply for means-tested benefits if they meet specific criteria.
Primary Teacher Degree Apprenticeship Details
- Salary - Schools will pay the salary – not confirmed by the DFE on what pay spine yet- might be less than UQT1
- Timetable—60% 3 days a week on-the-job training in schools and 40% (2 days) off-the-job training, which will mainly be delivered online to best fit around the candidate's schedule. This is a 4-year course.
- Route and Support—Offered in grades 5-11 only, candidates will have a school-based mentor and university-based tutor to support them.
- Entry requirements - A Levels- CCC or BTEC- MMM, plus GCSEs C/4 in English Language, Maths, and Science. (Will accept International Baccalaureate, T Level – Merit in Education and Early Years of Education and Childcare. Need IELTS 6.5 overall.
- Employer role - Provide TDA employment contract, pay salary on agreed pay spine (not yet confirmed), provide a mentor, attend apprenticeship progress reviews.
- Funding for schools - There is no direct funding to support the salary - however, trainees would not have to pay degree/teacher training fees.
- Funding for training—After a suitable application and vetting process, the training programme cost can be claimed from the apprenticeship levy pot. Trainees can’t access student loans but can apply for means-tested benefits if they meet certain criteria.
