London South Teacher Training

London South Teacher Training

Train to teach in South London

We train hundreds of new teachers across Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham.

Working with partner organisations, we create innovative and effective routes to help schools recruit and support up-and-coming educators and for prospective teachers to find their way into the wide world of education.

All of our placement schools have significant experience in delivering Initial Teacher Training and are able to provide you with consistently high quality settings throughout your training programme.

Our vision for our trainees is to support all students with training that allows them to become highly skilled, confident, enthusiastic, well-rounded teachers. We aim to provide you with high-quality opportunities and experiences that will show the realities of being a teacher, but also encourage you to take risks and explore who you are as an individual teacher. We will help shape and guide you to be the teacher you want to be, to set you up to be well-rounded professionals in your classroom and beyond. Our goal is that every trainee will be successful – not only in your training year, but in your long-term career.

IFT is an exciting route into initial teacher teaching (ITT), which allows schools to take the lead in recruiting and training new teachers. The programme is a one-year, Postgraduate route that allows you to graduate with:

  • a wealth of classroom experience
  • QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
  • a fantastic network of high quality schools that could provide your first teaching job
  • a full PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) (optional additional cost)

There are often opportunities for successful trainees to go on and work within their host school, or group of schools, following a successful training year, subject to schools' recruitment and selection processes.
